Woolmers Estate offers colonial accommodation across seven self-contained cottages in Longford, Tasmania.
Built in the 1840s, the cottages range from one to three bedrooms and can accommodate between two and six guests. Four free settler cottages have been designed to appeal to groups of friends travelling together. These cottages are in blocks of two with doors that can be opened to connect them. Each cottage has a fully-equipped kitchen and an open fire or wood heater. The cottages reflect they were once home to trades people on the estate.Woolmers Estate is a significant example of 19th century rural farm settlements in Australia. Wander around the extensive grounds, colonial buildings and National Rose Garden. Soak up the atmosphere of a bygone era and take a complimentary guided tour of the main homestead. This splendid mansion has family collections, original furniture and memorabilia. Then enjoy a light lunch or morning and afternoon tea in the original Servants Kitchen. Take a day trip down the Tamar Valley to award-winning wineries or explore the striking Cataract Gorge.Rates are room only but continental breakfast is available upon request at an additional cost.Located 25-minutes’ drive southwest of Launceston (24 kilometres/15 miles) the estate is a genuine living history.The Rose Garden cottage sleeps two people and has one bedroom, with a queen size bed and is on one level.It was restored and opened in 1998 with fully fitted kitchen, recommended for honeymoon couples.
Tally-Ho or the Coachman's cottage sleeps six people and has three upstairs bedrooms, two rooms contain double beds and the third has twin beds.Cookery Nook or the Baker's cottage is a one bedroom self contained cottage that sleeps two people and is on one level. It has a fully fitted kitchen with cosy sitting room and open fireplace.Willow, Oak, Cherry Tree and Medlar will appeal to groups or friends travelling together. Similarly furnished self contained accommodation, with new bathrooms and kitchens added to original sitting rooms, DVD players and upstairs, loft-style bedrooms, they are situated in blocks of two. Doors can be opened to connect each pair if desired.
