There are several entry points into the Heritage Highway region, however the drive along Hobart Road provides the greatest interest. This area is home to the historic Franklin House as well as Tasmanian Glass Blowers.
Built in 1838 and restored by the National Trust, Franklin House is a fine example of the Georgian period. It is particularly renowned for its superb Australian cedar interiors. There is a lovely garden behind the house, including two oak trees planted when the home was built along with a 'strawberry tree' and a horse chestnut, all listed on the Significant Tree Register for Tasmania.
Franklin House was the birthplace of the National Trust in Tasmania, almost 50 years ago.
Visit master glassblower, James Dodson at Tasmania's only hot glass studio, situated at Breadalbane. Here you can experience his art in creating exquisite, individually blown and sculptured pieces.
