Innovative collaborative tourism venture
The Longford experience is part of an innovative collaborative tourism venture. The University's Community, Place and Heritage Cenre has collaborated across 2008 with Tasmania's Heritage Highway Tourism Region Assocaiation Inc. to develop three contemporary tourism products that showcase the Heritage Highway Region and give visitors and locals the opportunity to meaningfully experience the rich heritage of the region, and gain an understanding of this land and its peoples.
"Longford: Voices from the Graves" comprises a self-guided walk brochure and accompanying booklet providing rich information on the Christ Church precinct and a tour of the graveyard; where thirteen of the people buried 'speak' to the visitor.
"Oatlands: Law and Order" also has a self-guided walk brochure and booklet that encourage the visitor to explore the town on foot, and have revealed the lives of ten people of colonial Oatlands.
"Land and Landscape" comprises eleven high quality postcards; each depicting a painting by a famous Heritage Highway artist - past and contemporary. On the reverse side of the postcard there is information about the artist and the painting, and where to travel to in the region for an experience inspired by the artworks.
All three products are packaged individually in a heritage-style envelope.
The products are presently available now from the Heritage Highway Tourism Region Association. Phone 03 6397 7315 or email heritagehighway@northmidlands.tas.gov.au.
From early December, these will be available from local visitor centres, The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery Shop and selected galleries in Tasmania.
The Longford and Oatlands products are for sale at $10 each; and the Land and Landscape product for $15 each.
