Of the eleven Australian sites nominated for World Heritage Listing, five are in Tasmania, and two are right here in our own Heritage Highway region.
The eleven Australian sites form the Australian Convict Sites Property.
Woolmers & Brickendon Estates in Longford tell the stories of the convict assignment system, where convicts were the servants and labourers on farms and properties. The estates tell the good side of the convict story.
This is wonderful international recognition of the history of both properties.
