Oatlands Retreat is a home away from home, offering affordable 2 bedroom (sleeps 8) self-contained modern but quaint accommodation in historic Oatlands, approximately 1 hour between Hobart and Launceston on the Heritage Highway. All town attractions are within walking distance, including Lake Dulverton, a bird wildlife sanctuary, currently stocked with brown and rainbow trout, atlanic salmon and silver freshwater salmon. Get your fishing licence in Oatlands and throw a line in.
Take a trip back in time. Oatlands boasts the largest collection of colonial sandstone buildings in a village environment in Australia, many of which are now businesses such as antique, candy, bakery, craft, hotels, restaurants and cafes. Developed as a military base for managing convicts between Hobart & Launceston, much of Oatlands was convict built with many historically significant buildings, including the 3rd oldest mill in Australia. Do-it-yourself tours, guided tours and an entertaining Ghost Tour (please book ahead) are available at the Central Tasmanian Tourism Centre located in Oatlands. You can also visit Casaveen, famous for woollen jumpers & factory tours (an Australian success story). Oatlands is only 20min drive from the highland lakes, where in winter, snow can transform the alpine landscape or just 1hr drive through undulating countryside takes you to Orford on the pristine east coast.
Why not make the friendly little village of Oatlands your base, being so central to most destinations and it has all the services of a large town, including a hospital. Pets are welcome as high gates & fences enclose the property, with safe 2 car parking. If you cannot find the adult/pension/child rate combination you are looking for, please phone.
